After 12th it was a
difficult choice which branch and faculty should I take up for study. And the pain of not getting into an
IOM was also there. A lot of my seniors, teachers and professionals suggested I
should take up Civil engineering, computer etc over over Engineering. From a
small age, I had an inclination towards Electronics, so I knew this is the one
for me. It was a big risk at that time, but it certainly did pay off!I landed into Nepal
Engineering College(nec) as Electronics and Communication as my majors. For
those who don’t know it is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Nepal. It
was difficult to get familiarize with a new course. People here were full of
knowledge and way smarter than me. From day 1 I had an Inferiority Complex, but
yes there were positive sides also. My teachers and seniors helped me a lot in almost everything.
The thing about
second-tier, third-tier and lower engineering colleges in Nepal is that you can
not expect much from the college when it come to knowledge. So a lot of
learning had to be self-learning through YouTube, Coursera and other online
platforms. Getting a good professor is real luxury. But it has its pros also
you learn a lot more than just the bookish knowledge. Anyways nec is at par
with most IOE level colleges and the exposure is really good.Another important part of
this journey were various student clubs and Exhibition. For me nec exhibition-2016
of my college were life-changing. nec
exhibition-2016 helped me grow as a person,
tackle challenges and most importantly get stuff done! Whereas nec exibition-2016 was like an elder brother to me guiding me on
every step. Be it the first project that I had design and completed.
I started design
electronics projects in my freshman year
but it was very basic. I made a moisture detector project using basic
electronics elements. I started getting real exposure when I was in the second
and Third year. I deeper study of electronics device and coding was done. But majorly I practiced
on help of YouTube. I’m not an expert at it, but trust me practice does help.
And over time my electronics design skills improved.A lot of my friends took
up an internship after the third and
Fourth year in various startups, but I preferred prepping for the internships
to be offered via college.I felt couldn’t crack some companies but I did! That day I learn an important
lesson never underestimate yourself. If you put in enough efforts you can crack
any company! And as expected I got rejected in many companies and I realized if I had prepared properly I
could have cracked it. But what’s gone is gone. Next was CCSI , I had high
hopes from CCSI but rejected me.
Few days later huawei response my CV
mailed.I started preparing with full swing. I used to study for 2-3 hours a
day. Electronics and communication about 10-20 interview questions daily. I
have not studied that with that level of dedication in my whole life. The
interviews were surprising as the
questions asked were a lot easier than expected. And after 30 days placement
office mailed us the resulted. That was one of the happiest days of my life. I
had even chance of getting into the big
telecommunication companies. This is one big turning point in my
journey. My internship at NTC was really life-changing and taught me a lot of
things. I shall give a detailed experience of my internship in another blog..
Unfortunately, I took LinkedIn seriously just a few days back. A suggestion to
all the new techies out there LinkedIn is a very powerful tool to connect with
like-minded peoples, seeking job/internship opportunities. It also shows what
other people are doing while you are wasting time on Instagram and Facebook. No
offence but this is the harsh reality. There are uncountable opportunities and
infinite things to do.Some program and course that I’ll
suggest are:
1.
Datacamp
2.
Coursera
3.
Github Student Program
4.
Geetcode
5.
Hackerrank
P.S. I was not a part of these programs
and course but I’ll highly recommend it.These
programs will help you enhance your technical skills and also network with some
really awesome peoples.Tell
me what do you think about my article and feel free to ask any questions that
you have in the comments section.
